When Kyle and I lived across from High Park, our favorite spot to grab a quick pint was The Local bar on Roncesvalles. Out of all the watering holes on this bustling, yet quaint street, this specific tavern had the most character and the best drinks.

The furniture reminds me of something you might find in your Grandmother’s house, with seating made from worn leather with various patterns and old wooden tables placed wherever space allowed. While this might sound unappealing to some, it’s quirky features such as these that make this place live up to its name. Walk down Roncesvalles during the week, and you’re almost guaranteed to hear folksy-type music emanating from within and a few people sharing a laugh over a cigarette outside.
Our favorite beer here is called the Hoptical Illusion, a stronger drink that should be designated for those who enjoy more of a bitter lager. It packs a bit of a punch in terms of aftertaste, and will leave your mouth full of flavor. However, if hoppy beer is not your preference, the fully equipped bar is sure to have something to tantalize your taste buds.
If you’re in the area, stop in with a friend to kick back, listen to music and enjoy the overall chill atmosphere The Local provides.
