His Take: Crazy Addictive Korean Tapas at Oddseoul on Ossington

[tabs type=”horizontal”][tabs_head][tab_title]His Top Tips[/tab_title][/tabs_head][tab]1. Grab a drink at the Bellwoods Brewery just down the street, and head to Oddseoul for some late night snacks.

2. Great spot for meeting the guys, or bringing a date. The atmosphere is versatile and can support either occasion.

3. Best items on the menu: Philly Cheese Steak, the Shrimp, and the Loosey. Just make sure you order more than 1 dish per person ($5-10 per dish)[/tab][/tabs]

If Hal from Breaking Bad decided to cook incredible Korean tapas instead of the purest form of meth that he could concoct – that would be just as addictive – he would have opened Oddseoul on Ossington. It is almost impossible to describe how perfectly tasty just about every single dish at Oddseoul is. So I won’t. All that I will say is that you need to go. Now. I’m being completely serious, I want you to close your laptop, get up, and go to Oddseoul right NOW. If my words aren’t enough to convince you, then maybe these will help:

I’m telling you, head over to Oddseoul A.S.A.P! This place is the real deal. My personal favourite at Oddseoul is the Philly Cheese Steak. It’s a bit on the small side, but it’s only $5 or so… which means that if you’re still hungry after eating the first, you can order a second and you’re only spending $10 for what I would say is probably my favourite sandwich in Toronto. Guaranteed.

Of course, the Philly Cheese Steak has some stiff competition in the “Loosey,” another steak based sandwich so good that upon our last visit to Oddseoul, one of our friends devoured his sandwich and within 5 seconds had ordered a round for everyone at the table… whether we wanted it or not. As it turns out, we all wanted it… we just didn’t know it yet.

The shrimp is also beyond fathomable. Smothered in a spicy, crunchy, Korean sauce that I won’t even begin to try and understand, it is quite possibly the best shrimp I have ever had. Maybe not the largest, but definitely the best. So good in fact, that I didn’t even notice that I was eating the tails. I would also recommend the chicken wings, which taste a bit different than any other chicken wing I’ve ever had… in a good way.

With an atmosphere somewhat resemblant of an American dive-bar, what with brick walls and neon lights, this spot could be perfect for 3-4 dudes to meet up after work. However, this is not purely a man-cave. The cocktails are mixed to perfection, and the decor at Oddseoul is really more reminiscent of an urban loft than a grungy bar, so I would highly recommend this spot for a date night with the Mrs. It’s also a bit of a tough place to find (I don’t remember there being a sign on the outside, or really any indication that there is anything other than an old, narrow warehouse behind the stained glass windows), which of course creates a bit of a “how did you know about this place?” factor. They serve food well in to the night, which makes for a great pit-stop after grabbing a few beers at one of the local watering holes such as the Bellwoods Brewery. All in all, any time is a good time to swing by Oddseoul. You won’t regret it.
